RIOT 2026.11

Third public build of the cross-platform desktop app. Adds rotate, flip, and crop (with a draggable frame on compare), Bilinear and Magic Kernel Sharp resampling, output prefix and suffix, more interface languages, and remembered window placement.

Operations

• Rotate & Flip: 90° counter-clockwise, 180°, or 90° clockwise (click the selected angle again to clear it). Horizontal and Vertical flips are independent. Horizontal mirrors left to right; Vertical mirrors top to bottom.
• Order is rotate, then flips, then crop, then resize.
• Crop, Centered: largest centered area at Square (1:1), 5:4, 4:3, 7:5, 3:2, 16:10, 16:9, 2:1, 21:9, or a custom ratio. Orientation follows the image, or is forced to landscape or portrait. Portrait swaps the preset (16:9 is cut as 9:16).
• Crop, Coordinates: X, Y, width, and height in pixels of the rotated and flipped image. Auto on width or height runs to that edge. An all-zero area adds no crop.
• Visual crop on compare: a frame over the whole image, darkened outside. Drag corners and edges to resize (at least 1px, clamped to the image); Shift keeps the proportions; drag inside to move. Dragging a centered crop switches the panel to Coordinates and updates the fields live.
• With Crop and Resize both on, the saved image is drawn inside the frame. Dragging hides that inset until the new file is ready.
• Resize filters: Bilinear (linear), Magic Kernel Sharp 2013 (mks2013), and Magic Kernel Sharp 2021 (mks2021), beside Nearest, Cubic (Catmull-Rom), Mitchell, and Lanczos3. Each filter has a tooltip. Enlarging with Mitchell, Lanczos3, or either Magic Kernel uses the Cubic curve. See the resampling filters guide.

File handling

• Prefix and Suffix wrap the output stem before the extension (photo.jpg with pre_ and _opt becomes pre_photo_opt.jpg). Unique names, backups, and keep-original keep that text.
• Empty or whitespace-only values leave the name unchanged. Separators, Windows-forbidden characters, control characters, . / .., and more than 64 characters are rejected. The decorated stem is limited to 200 characters.
• Prefix and suffix are saved with Last Used. Compare and preview do not apply them.

Desktop

• Window position, size, and maximized state are restored. A rectangle that does not fit a connected screen opens at the default centered size. Maximized is kept either way.
• The Original folder destination choice is remembered, separate from the last custom output folder.
• Compare watches the open source file and reloads it when another program replaces it, with the note “The file was changed externally and the image was reloaded.”
• Interface languages added: German, French, Hindi, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Russian, and Simplified Chinese, beside English, Spanish, and Romanian. Chinese translation with help from 大眼仔~旭. Italian translation with help from bovirus. The choice is saved and can be switched at runtime. The Windows installer writes the display language when none is saved yet; Traditional Chinese selects the Simplified catalog.
• Settings-column UI polish (segmented controls, panel cards, spacing). Some of these UI design improvements thanks to Oldřich Žaluda.
• Resize, Rotate & Flip, Crop, and Quantization open as panels from the Operations menu. A switch beside the title turns the operation on or off and leaves the panel open either way. Off keeps the settings you entered and leaves the picture unchanged. Remove closes the panel and switches the operation off. Last Used restores the open panels and which switches were on.
• In the dark theme, text fields, dropdowns, checkboxes, and radio buttons are lighter than the settings panel, so they are easier to see against the card.
• File-list columns can be dragged to a new width. The line between headings thickens when you point at it. Name uses the remaining space and grows with the window. Size, Status, Output, and Saved keep the width you set. A drag stops at the edge of the list.
• Compare Save is Ctrl+S (⌘S on macOS). The dialog still starts in the source file’s folder.
• The Qt bundled with the macOS and Windows packages takes less space. Compared with 2026.10. The percent is how much smaller the download is.
